Jamie Johnson at Meadow Lane

Jamie Johnson at Meadow Lane

Jamie Johnson is back! My three boys love watching the tv series so it was an extra bonus to be asked by Notts County to capture them filming at Meadow Lane (aka the Hawksworth United home ground) last year. Catch the latest series here on the BBC iPlayer.

Builders

Builders

These guys have been working on our house for the last few weeks. They literally turn up at the crack of dawn and then work all day – mostly hard physical work – often outside in the driving cold winter rain – and always with a cheery attitude. They have a tremendous amount of skill and overcome problems easily – I guess from years worth of experience. I don’t envy them being out in the elements when it’s harsh and having to do hard physical work regardless, but there is something about doing an honest day’s hard work and having something to show for it at the end of the day. And something to be said for being part of a team with a bit of banter and also looking out for each other. Thanks to the builders from ASK for all their hard work and for being up for having…

Daily Telegraph Portrait

Daily Telegraph Portrait

I was recently commissioned by the Daily Telegraph to do a portrait of Helen Bond – a consultant dietitian. The shoot was arranged to take place in her kitchen – which made sense given the nature of her work. I like to photograph people in their natural environments as there is a better chance of the portrait being more relaxed and genuine. What was unnerving was having no idea what her kitchen would be like. Would there be good quality natural light? Would it be a flattering environment in terms of offering context to the photo? As it turned out yes to both and Helen was lovely to photograph – happy not to rush things despite being very busy.

OK! Magazine

OK! Magazine

I was asked to do a shoot for OK! Magazine last week. Thankfully the children were angelic and the location at Oulton Hall was lovely with many of the rooms flooded with natural light. One of the biggest challenges was having one hour to edit the shoot. For me even a short shoot normally requires half a day. Goes to show that we tend to work with what we have and we can still do OK. Great place for afternoon tea by the way – especially if you like it to be served by a butler! OK Magazine is out now (on newsstands 12th-18th Jan).
